My Own Hero's Journey
I came to be a therapist accidentally. I felt like I was drowning and I was pulled to begin my own journey of self excavation. It so happened that I enrolled myself in a program that led to licensure as a psychotherapist, but what I truly got out of it was my own salvation.
I truly believe that your therapist can only take you as far as they themselves are willing to dive into their own shadow work.
After 10 years of my own personal analytic work, I feel honored to be able to hold the lantern for others who are brave enough to explore their psychological cave. Being in therapy IS NOT easy, and I applaud you for taking this first step toward better mental health, no matter who you choose as your therapist.
Fun Facts
- I grew up in LA to immigrant parents, making me a first-generation Angeleno. My dad emigrated to the US from Yucatan, Mexico, while my mother came to Los Angeles from Dunkerque, France. I speak French fluently, but my Spanish is scattered.
- I taught myself to read with a Greek Mythology book, which I still have. In 5th grade, I tried to convert my class to worshipping the polytheistic pantheon of greek gods over Jesus because I believed that it just made more sense to have separate gods for separate things. After all, no one is perfect. My english teacher had to have a parent teacher conference about it.
- I believe Cooking and sharing food with loved ones to be the ultimate love language. My favorite thing to cook is a 4-hour bolognese sauce and I roast a whole chicken every Monday morning. Cooking is my most frequent outlet for creativity and I love to make huge meals and have everyone over to eat and play board games.
- I'm an artist: you'll find some of my work on this website. In my doctoral dissertation, I developed a way to work with erotic dreams that involves painting my body with spices, dirt, flowers and random elements of food (honey, wine, seeds, etc.), taking pictures, and then using those images to create collages that support the exploration of the underlying creative body of the dreamer.
- I have a black cat named Pluto and he told me his name in a dream the night before I found him. It was very synchronistic. I also have a little white dog named Frank who I rescued last year. He’s a senior who was dumped at the shelter and now he sleeps in my bed every night and feasts on organic chicken. I’m known to be late for events because I will stop for any stray dog I come across.
- In my free time I read about alchemy and astrology and study random astrological charts. And if anyone cares, I’m a Taurus sun, Aries moon, and Pisces rising.
